Saudi Arabia 385MW M701F4 Acoustic Enclosure Project

Project Background

A leading global heavy-duty gas turbine manufacturer required a customized acoustic enclosure solution for its 385MW M701F4 F-class gas turbine project in Saudi Arabia.

The M701F4 series is widely used in large-scale combined-cycle power plants across the Middle East. Due to the extreme desert climate, the acoustic enclosure system needed to meet strict requirements in terms of noise reduction, structural strength, high-temperature resistance, dust protection, corrosion resistance, and long-term outdoor operation reliability.

This project represents CLET’s successful delivery of a direct overseas supply project for a world-class gas turbine manufacturer, demonstrating its engineering and manufacturing capabilities for high-end gas turbine acoustic solutions.

Project Challenges

Extreme Desert Operating Conditions
Saudi Arabia features high temperatures, intense sunlight, heavy dust, and significant temperature variations between day and night. The acoustic enclosure required excellent resistance against heat, sand, dust, UV exposure, and long-term outdoor corrosion.

High Noise Reduction Requirements
The turning gear generates significant operational noise. The enclosure needed to achieve high-performance sound insulation while maintaining sufficient internal space for equipment inspection, maintenance, and heat dissipation.

Strict OEM Quality Standards
The project required compliance with strict OEM requirements covering engineering drawings, structural calculations, welding quality, dimensional accuracy, sealing performance, and final inspection procedures.

Overseas Installation Requirements
Considering limited local fabrication capabilities, the enclosure needed to be fully prefabricated, inspected, and modularized before shipment to minimize onsite modification and installation work.

CLET Solution

1. Customized Acoustic Enclosure Design & Manufacturing
CLET independently completed the 3D design, acoustic simulation, structural analysis, and manufacturing process development for the turning gear enclosure.
The customized solution includes:

  • Heavy-duty steel frame structure for long-term outdoor operation
  • High-density acoustic insulation materials for effective noise reduction
  • Large sealed access doors for convenient maintenance
  • Multi-layer sealing design to prevent sound leakage and dust intrusion
  • Customized openings for piping and equipment interfaces

The enclosure dimensions and installation interfaces were precisely matched with the M701F4 gas turbine system.

2. Desert Climate Adaptation Design
Based on the Saudi Arabian desert environment, CLET optimized the enclosure structure and surface treatment:

  • High-temperature resistant anti-corrosion coating system
  • UV-resistant outdoor protective paint
  • Dust-proof louvers and sealing structures
  • Weather-resistant stainless-steel fasteners

The customized design ensures stable operation under extreme heat and dusty outdoor conditions.

3. Strict Manufacturing Quality Control
CLET implemented a comprehensive quality management process throughout production:

  • Precision cutting and welding control
  • Dimensional accuracy inspection
  • Structural integrity verification
  • Sealing performance inspection
  • Acoustic performance evaluation

Complete engineering documents, manufacturing records, and inspection reports were provided to ensure compliance with international project standards.

4. Factory Pre-Assembly & Modular Export Delivery
To reduce onsite installation complexity, the acoustic enclosure was fully assembled and inspected at CLET’s factory before shipment.
The enclosure was modularly divided according to transportation requirements, with:

  • Factory pre-fitting verification
  • Anti-corrosion protection
  • Reinforced export packaging

After arriving at the Saudi project site, the enclosure could be quickly assembled with minimal onsite adjustment.
